AW6 Sixth Form Curriculum

Cognita Nexus Concept.

At our Sixth Form Centre of Excellence, AW6, we follow the Cognita Nexus Concept for Post 16 education. Nexus is a concept which focuses on bridging the gap between school and university and prepares students for the excitement and challenge of life beyond study. This is an education for game changers, the studious, disrupters, creative thinkers and leaders in waiting, and is as unique as its students.

We believe this new approach offers the very best in Sixth Form education and experience; academic excellence is delivered by a dedicated team of teaching professionals who consistently support students to achieve their best. This is matched by an equally impressive co-curricular and Future Ready Programme. Our offer considers what is required in a workforce of the future, and supports the development of curious, resilient and adaptable young people.

Assessments.

At AW6 we use CAT4 Assessments which produce a rounded profile of the whole child, revealing hidden potential and identifying different learning styles to ensure students reach their full potential. Our teaching professionals deliver an exceptional academic offer.

Along with a broad A Level curriculum, we also offer the Extended Project Qualification, English Speaking Board Qualification as well as encouraging our students to engage with a variety of MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses). This wealth of opportunity enables our students to choose subjects which they both enjoy and can find success in.

An Enhanced Curriculum

Ready for the future.

Our broad A Level curriculum is enhanced with an innovative Future Ready programme, designed to complement every student’s timetable while equipping them with skills that will set them apart in whatever pathway they choose beyond AW6. Alongside their lessons, students will have the opportunity to take part in sessions on debate and public speaking, networking breakfasts as well as national initiatives such as Young Enterprise.

Students will also benefit from links with local universities, such as Buckingham University, where visiting lecturers host workshops, give mock interviews and provide excellent advice for anyone considering Higher Education. With an in-house Careers and Futures Lead, all students will receive 1:1 careers advice to help craft their perfect future.

"A £1m undertaking, the new Sixth Form AW6 site opened in Sept 21 at Tile House Mansion, a grand Victorian estate roughly 15 minutes from the Senior School. With a palpable campus-like feel (no uniforms and purely 17-18 year olds) it offers something very different to most day school Sixth Forms in the area. No surprise that Akeley Wood was judged Highly Commended in our Muddy Stilettos Best Schools Awards 2022 in the ‘Special Sixth Form’ category."
