Enhancing the curriculum.
We believe in educating the whole child and offering as many opportunities as possible to learn in different environments and in different ways. Lunchtimes and after school are when many of our weekly clubs take place and as well as sports clubs and musical groups, we have clubs such as Chess, French film club, Verbal Fight Club, The LGBTQ+ Society and Miss Hodgson’s Cooking club – always popular!
Students also enjoy our distinct Enriched Curriculum programme, in addition to the fantastic extra-curricular offer at Akeley.
Orchestra / Concert Band
This lively Wednesday lunchtime gathering is for any student who plays an instrument. A wide variety of genres will be explored and music will cater for all performance abilities, from beginners to advanced players. Come along and find out how we can all join together to make some brilliant sounds!
Chess Club
No need to be a grandmaster to enjoy this club - come and test your skills on a Monday lunchtime and learn to play one of the world’s oldest and most popular games from scratch, or brush up on what you already know. Learn to castle, promote your pawns or even play a gambit.
Cooking club
Thursday cooking club is very popular! It’s a lot of fun and allows students to roll their sleeves up and make things that they wouldn’t usually be able to make in the food lessons.
Delicious treats such as Rocky Road, Cookie Dough, Pancakes and Candy Apples, using trees from the Akeley orchard have been on the menu recently.
Sewing Club
Our lunchtime sewing club gives students the chance to enjoy our dedicated textiles room and suite of sewing machines outside of timetabled lessons. With 1-to-1 guidance and tuition, students are able to build confidence when using the machines and learn a range of new sewing techniques such as hems, seams, button holes and zips.
They'll be introduced to a range of fabrics and get to practice their new found skills through creating their very own sewn projects.

trips
At Akeley Wood School, our students flourish into individuals that are full of character and potential. Exciting trips happen all year round, to ensure our young individuals are provided with ample opportunity to explore, get creative and most of all have fun! Whether it's a geography trip to France, or a historical visit to an art and archaeology museum, the range of residential trips and days out for students across the school are endless.
Senior School students enjoy residential trips within the UK and around the world, consolidating learning across a wide range of subjects. Our sports tours are extremely popular and, in the past, have included fixture-filled trips to Dubai, Holland and Spain for our budding sports enthusiasts to enjoy. Other trips have included GCSE Geography excursions to Snowdonia National Park, an action-packed adventure across the channel to be immersed in the rich history and language of France.
